Neonatal domestic South American Camelid llamas and alpacas suffer from an enteric disease complex characterized by abdominal distention, lethargy, dehydration, and eventual fatal septicemia. Analysis of rectal swabs from neonatal alpacas suffering clinical diarrheas has constantly isolatedEscherichia coli, mainly the EPEC and EHEC pathotypes. The present communication reports the results of molecular analysis of 226E. colistrains from neonatal alpaca rectal swabs. The isolates were initially tested by multiple PCR, to identifyE. colivirulence geneseae,bfp,Lt,Stx1,Stx2,sta,stab, andltgenes and a similar test to detect F4, F5, F6, F17, and F41fimbriae adhesin genes. Forty-two of the 226 (18.5%) isolates tested positive for at least one pathogenic gene, 25 of the 42 were classified as EPEC (3 positives for onlyeaeand 22 for botheaeandbfp) and the remaining 17 were classified as EHEC. The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility of the main bacterial pathogens isolated from cases of cervical lymphadenitis in guinea pigs from two commercial-family breeding centres in the province of Canchis, Cusco. In total, 64 samples of cervical abscesses were processed between September 2018 and March 2019. The samples were cultured and the antibiogram on agar with discs of the main antibiotics used in family-commercial rearing systems was carried out. Beta-hemolytic Streptococcus sp (91.8%, 56/61), Staphylococcus sp (45.9%, 28/61) and Klebsiella sp (21.3%, 13/61) were identified. The highest frequency of isolates occurred in adult guinea pigs. The frequency of antimicrobial susceptibility was high for all the isolated genera, except for enrofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole for beta-hemolytic Streptococcus sp. The results show a diversit...

The study aimed to describe the microbiota present in alpaca semen. Fifteen semen samples were collected using the artificial vagina, electroejaculation and post-copula techniques (five per technique). In addition, preputial (n=5) and vaginal (n=5) swabs were made. Microbiological cultures were made to determine the bacterial and fungal genera and an assessment of the bacterial load by determining the number of colony-forming units (CFU/ml). Six bacterial genera were identified in the vagina and seven in the prepuce, in addition to a fungal species (Aspergillus fumigatus). Bacteria of the genera Escherichia, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Bacillus were the most abundant and present in semen obtained by the three techniques, coinciding with those found in preputial and vaginal swabs. The amount of CFU/ml was similar for the three techniques, while there was no presence of fungi in the ...
