This article seeks to present the beginnings of interdisciplinary work focused on monastic ensemblesof the Barrios Altos area in the historic center of Lima, Peru. The exemplary case taken for thegeneral introduction to the topic is the set of Nuestra Señora del Prado, founded in 1640. Theapproach is given from the perspectives of history, architecture and civil engineering, and is aproduct of a course taught by and directed towards architects and engineers at the PontificalCatholic University of Peru.

En 1643 el Padre Gaspar de Villagra, cura de la parroquia de Santa Ana del Cuzco, mandó levantar un plano que representara su parroquia y la del Hospital de los Naturales —hoy San Pedro— para resolver un pleito de límites entre ambas1. El autor anónimo realizó un plano en acuarelas que muestra este sector específico de la ciudad, detallando las manzanas de la traza española implantada y la forma de los edificios que en ellas se encontraban. Se trata de un dibujo muy detallado, que permite apreciar «a vista de pájaro» no solo el tejido urbano sino también el vecino puente y los desniveles —algunos topográficos; otros, resultado de un gran andén inca usado de basamento a la altura de Santa Clara— y el interior de las construcciones, con patios y huertas, bordeados por techos de tejas y los muros con vanos hacia el exterior, de modo que pueden contarse puertas y ventanas...
