Penaeus vannamei aquaculture is an important productive sector in Ecuador; however, this sector is still deficient in identifying and managing health problems, mainly in the larval stage. For eight weeks, the microbial load was evaluated with respect to total heterotrophic bacteria and Vibrio spp in the inlet water, treated water, and production tanks of three laboratories in the Canton of Sucre, province of Manabí. Additionally, a survey was carried out on laboratory management and the application of basic health measures. Average values of 7 x 106 CFU mL-1 for heterotrophic bacteria and 4 x 102 CFU mL-1 for Vibrio spp were obtained. El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el tiempo de inducción y de recuperación de Dormitator. latifrons mantenidos en agua dulce y salobre, expuestos a cuatro dosis de eugenol. Un total de 240 organismos fueron transferidos individualmente a un acuario con 15 L de agua dulce (0 UPS) o agua salobre (20 UPS) con la dosis de eugenol de cada tratamiento (42.5, 85, 170 y 255 mg/L). En cada tratamiento se analizaron 30 peces. El tiempo de inducción no mostró diferencias significativas entre niveles de salinidad, en tanto que el tiempo de recuperación fue significativamente mayor en agua salobre (706 s) que en agua dulce (507 s) (p<0.05). En ambas salinidades, el incremento de la dosis de eugenol disminuye el tiempo de inducción e incrementa el tiempo de recuperación.
