An ex post facto study was done at Belen Hospital Obstetrics Service between January and December 2009 to compare the effectiveness of cesarean and vaginal delivery in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia according to maternal and neonatal complications. The study was made with 218 pregnant women with severe preeclampsia from which 167 had cesarean deliveries and 51 vaginal ones. Both groups were compared according to their demographic and obstetric characteristics, having more incidences in 15 and 19 year old pregnant women and nulliparous. The maternal complications were similar in both groups, being the most frequent ones anemia and urinary infection. There were no maternal deaths. In the neonatal complications, the neonatal jaundice was significantly more numerous in the cesarean delivery group than in the vaginal delivery one.
