Dry rot of yam tubers is a disease that currently causes the greatest economic losses to small producers associated with this crop in the Colombian Caribbean, as it deteriorates the internal tissues of tubers, causing loss of its commercial value and the seeds. Currently, we are not certain about the identity of the causal agents, so this research was carried out in order to objetive collect, isolate and characterize the fungi associated with the dry rot disease of yam tubers cv. "Espino" in the Caribbean region of Colombia in storage conditions. This study was carried out between February and October 2019, identifying the yam-producing areas in the Colombian Caribbean region and collecting in the municipalities and sidewalks, tubers in storage. In laboratory, the associated fungi were isolated from the lesions and identified through the amplification of the ITS (Internal Transcribed Spa...

Dry rot of tubers is one of the most devastating diseases in yam production (Dioscorea rotundata Poir.) in the Caribbean region of Colombia. The disease attacks tubers causing production losses during the crop. In previous experiments, 11 fungal morphotypes were isolated and associated with this disease in yam crops in the Caribbean region of Colombia. The present investigation was carried out under greenhouse conditions to determine the infection capacity of these 11 possible causative agents, in 150-day-old plants of two yam genetic materials (0307-49SB y 0307-50CB). The results indicated that morphotypes DH2 (Lasiodiplodia theobromae), DH11 (Curvularia aeria), DH20 (Aspergillus niger), and DH17 (Fusarium equiseti), showed the highest infection capacity to yam tubers, regardless of the genetic material, therefore, they were considered as the main causal agents of the disease in the Car...

The white yam crops make a substantial contribution to sustaining the food security of millions of people worldwide. However, obtaining good quality planting material is a major challenge. Multiplication rates are low, with expensive seeds and prone to contamination by pests and pathogens in traditional production systems. In addition, the intensive use of natural resources has caused impacts on biodiversity, quality of natural resources and global warming, which forces farmers to mitigate and adapt to these conditions. In this sense, the present study evaluated the response of apical cuttings of white yam to different levels of shading (0 %, 65 % and 80 %) and to the inoculation of the rhizobacterium Bacillus licheniformis-DSC1 at doses of 2 and 6 mL. A randomized complete block design with factorial arrangement and three replications was used to set up the experiment. The results demon...
