On June 6, 2012, the Pacific Alliance came into force, comprising Colombia, Chile, Peru, and Mexico, the most open economies in the region. They had Free Trade Agreements with the major powers and recorded high economic growth rates but significant social exclusion and inequality. Since 2018, leftist governments have been elected in all four countries, which questioned the FTAs and the neoliberal model.
