Field observation records of Forpus xanthops are documented. Between 2013 and 2018, eight observations show F. xanthops feeding in various places in the seasonally dry tropical forest of the Marañón (BTES-Marañón) in Cajamarca and Amazonas. These records show that some items in their diet are cactus species, such as Espostoa lanata (Kunth) Britton & Rose, Espostoa mirabilis F. Ritte, Armatocereus rauhii Backeb, the latter two species being endemic to Peru. Feeding records include also Parkinsonia praecox (Ruiz & Pav.) Hawkins, Eriotheca discolor (Kunth) A. Robyns, Ochroma pyramidale (Cav. ex Lam.) Urb. and the fruit species Spondias purpurea L. and Citrus sinensis (L .) Osbeck.

We report documented records of the Marañón Crescentchest (Melanopareia maranonica) in six localities. These have hydrological connectivity with the middle basin of the Marañón River, in the provinces of Celendín (Cajamarca) and Luya (Amazonas), Peru. The records were obtained through occasional encounters, biological evaluations and intensive searches, between 2017 and 2020. These new records are between 1111 and 2074 m in elevation, exceeding its known altitudinal range by more than 1000 m. A total of 39 individuals were registered (11 females, 12 males and 16 indeterminate due to the fact that only auditory registration was made). We expanded the known range with respect to the published records by 121 km in the Cajamarca region and 98.2 km in the Amazonas region. Appropriate habitat for this species is protected in 5,290.12 ha of the Marañón Seasonally Dry Inter-Andean Forest ...

Seasonally dry forests in Peru are a combination of ecosystems that include three large floristic groups: coastal, inter-Andean and eastern forests. Except for the seasonally dry forests of the northern coastal plains of the country, until recently it was difficult to explore what occurred floristically within each group due to lack of data. However, in the last 20 years various floristic studies and botanical inventories focused on woody plants have managed to fill knowledge gaps in critical areas. With these studies we have generated the DRYFLOR Peru database that to date includes 526 quantitative inventories (lists of species in discrete areas, including records of their abundances) and that allows us to confirm the floristic distinction of the three large groups. Additionally, we were able to clearly recognize two subgroups of seasonally dry coastal forests (on coastal plains and alo...

Balsasensis R. y usando Espostoa mirabilis R. disminuye a 27,45 % y 25,24 % re...
