The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of canine leptospirosis and identify factors associated with the infection in an indigenous Kamentsá population of the department of Putumayo, Colombia. Blood samples of dogs of both sexes (n=154) located in the rural area of Sibundoy Valley were collected. Demographic, sanitary, and responsible tenure variables were identified through a structured survey. Blood samples were processed by the macroscopic microagglutination test (MAT) using a reference strain collection composed of 24 serogroups of Leptospira serogroups. The prevalence of antibodies against Leptospira sp was 79.9%. The most frequent serogroups were Gripotyphosa (10.2%), Hursbridge (8.4%), Sarmin and Australis (7.2%), Canicola (6.8%) and Tarassovi (6.4%). The associated risk factors were the age of the dog, the presence of sewage and the possession of more than on...

The signing of the peace agreement between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the Colombian government brought a change in the social dynamics of rural regions of Colombia that has affected small sheep producers in post-conflict regions. The aim of this study was to identify the sociodemographic factors that affect the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) in extensive sheep systems in the Colombian post-conflict and their relationship with some health, production and economic indicators. Thirteen sheep farms located in Marulanda, Colombia were evaluated. The implementation of the GAP was determined through a structured evaluation instrument based on Colombian legislation (Res. 20277 of 2018). In addition, a sample of sheep under 1 year of age was taken from each farm to conduct clinical examinations and laboratory analysis to obtain sanitary indicators. Age (β...

The aim of this study was to characterize foot lesions in dairy cows in farms of the coffee-growing region and northern Valle del Cauca. An observational retrospective study was carried out based on bovine podiatric evaluation records. The records of 8671 milk-type cattle from the high and low tropics (n=8548 females, n=123 breeders) located in 28 municipalities of the coffee-growing region and northern Vall del Cauca (n=93 farms) were analyzed. A trained veterinary practitioner with expertise in podiatry performed the evaluation of all the injuries between January 2015 and December 2019. Results showed that 26.07% of the cattle presented some degree of podal injury and of these, 41.45% exhibited alterations in the locomotion. The prevalence of infectious and non-infectious lesions were 7.88% and 92.12%, respectively. Sole hemorrhage was the most frequent pathology (41.4%), followed by s...
