ASD is the most common in our series of 100 cases congenital heart catheterization since 1948. In order of frequency follow the VSD, the ductus arteriosus and pulmonary stenosis. This higher incidence of ASD, agrees with the earlier findings of ME Abbott or the recent studies of Abrahams and Wood. In our series, we found 17 cases of atrial septal defect (17.70%); of which we have selected 9 patients whose data are the most complete.

There have been 4 cases of patent ductus arteriosus in which calcification of the ductus region on the image plate was observed. The radiographic image feature corresponds to a calcium deposit in the aortic walls next to the aortic opening of the ductus . This area has been identified as the aortic infundibulum . In a review of published cases of patent ductus arteriosus with calcifications recognized at autopsy or x-rays, it was observed that the age of the patients was distributed from 29 to 79. Calcification occurred in cases with and without pulmonary hypertension, although the former were in the majority. The finding of calcification feature helps in the diagnosis of patent ductus arteriosus with pulmonary hypertension , especially in the differential diagnosis between patent ductus with reversed shunt and large VSD with left to right shunt ( Eisenmanger complex ) , whose manifestat...

We studied 24 cases of Congenital Valvular Pulmonary Stenosis, the characters of the second pulmonary sound. - In 16 cases splitting is registered with the pulmonary component of lower intensity than the aortic, and interval between the onset of both components from 0.06 to 0.08 second, in 5 cases it was found weak but pure and in the remaining three bullrings, was pure and normal intensity. Nature of the second pulmonary noise is related to the duration of systole and right ventricular systolic pressure in the cavity. Increased right ventricular systole. conditions delay in the closure of the pulmonary leaflets. The delay in the closure of the semilunar pulmonary conditions the dissociation of the aortic and pulmonary components thus producing the splitting. The morphology of the right ventricle in 19 cases was different from other heart diseases that present with right ventricular hype...

For a while, following the original description of Roger, the ventricular septal defect was estimated as a benign lesion that does not alter the longevity of the carrier. However, there have been reports of infants and children with severe symptoms and disability states. Edwards, on the basis of anatomical and pathological collection of the Mayo Clinic, established that 19 of 30 patients with isolated ventricular septal defect had died before the age of 6 months. In the series of Maude Abbott, 1,000 autopsies of congenital heart disease, 21 of 50 cases of ventricular septal defects in membranous portion had died before 5 years of age.
