During the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of journalists disseminating accurate information to counteract misinformation became more evident. This study, conducted in the province of Azuay, Ecuador, investigated how journalists approached medical-scientific content during the initial wave of the pandemic. For this purpose, 10 journalists were interviewed, and the content of 66 health news stories across print, radio, digital, and audiovisual media was analyzed. The findings indicated that, despite the surge in news coverage, journalists exhibited limitations in source selection and knowledge regarding medical and scientific subjects. The study underscored the reliance on political-governmental sources, a lack of fact-checking, and complications inherent in emergency coverage that restricted access to high-quality information. This article do an approach to the impact of citizen activism during the earthquake of Ecuador on April 16, against the responsiveness of the mass media. The methodology considers the review of the activity of users on Twitter with two tools: Trendinalia and Twitter Reach, during 24 hours following the earthquake. First results indicate the importance of the user activity for informative production; however, Twitter, as an anarchic tool, it was evident the quantity of sources and much of the information was made about emotional issues.

Working conditions in Latin American media have been impacted by various crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, political-social violence and the economic crisis. For this reason, we are interested in determining the demographic and psychosocial factors that influence the decision to stop working in the media. In a sample of 288 journalists from Ecuador (34.4%), Peru (28.1%) and Venezuela (37.5%), two ad-hoc surveys were applied: one for demographic variables and the other for psychosocial risk/protection factors. Bivariate analyses were carried out to compare those who want to leave their jobs with those who do not, and it was found that those who want to leave their jobs are characterized by being young, women, residing in capital, have received more threats of dismissal, workplace harassment, feel that their health has worsened and negatively evaluate their bosses.
