It was observed that empathy predicts prosocial behaviour in children and that empathic people are less aggressive due to their emotional sensitivity and capacity to understand the potential negative consequences for themselves and others that can arise from aggression. For this reason, empathy appears negatively related to aggression and positively related to prosocial behaviour. Empathy includes cognitive processes and affective experiences, and it means at the same time a predominantly cognitive answer of understanding about other person feelings and an emotional communion. Davis (1983) defines empathy as a multidimensional construct. His scale includes cognitive components: Perspective Taking and Fantasy, and emotional components: Empathic Concern and Personal Distress. We will present the Argentine adaptation of The Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) of Davis (1980) that has 28 it...

In the present work a review of the new multivariate techniques and why they appear especiallysuited to the personality research is presented. Emerging models of personality  and advances in the measurement  of personality and psychopathology suggest that research in this field has ente red a stage of advanced development. The past two decades have shown importan! developments in statistics and measurement. Refinement of multivariate statistics has been especially importan! in personality assessment because of the complexity of relations among personality variables. Multivariate procedures provide the opportunity  to examine the complexity  of these interactions by providing methods of analysis for multiple variables. On the other hand, structural equation modeling and multivariate techniques for analyzing categorical variables have been developed. Multidimensional  scalin...

In the last years the idea has resurfaced that traits can be measured in a reliable and valid and this can be useful inthe prediction of human behavior. The five-factor model appears to represent a conceptual and empirical advances in the field of personality theory. Necessary orthogonal factors (Goldberg, 1992, p. 26) to show the relationships between the descriptors of the features in English is five, and its nature can be summarized through the broad concepts of Surgency, Agreeableness, Responsibility, Emotional Stability versus neuroticism and openness to experience (John, 1990, p96) Furthermore, despite the criticisms that have been given to the model, represents a breakthrough in the field of personality assessment. This approach means a contribution to the study of personality, without being the integrative model of personality.
