Este artículo discute el uso del concepto de “utopía andina” por las ciencias sociales de los años 80. Fue usada no sólo para caracterizar el “ciclo de rebeliones” del sur andino y las invasiones campesinas de mediados del siglo XX, sino también para explicar (en un primer momento), la aparición de Sendero Luminoso en Ayacucho. Las razones fueron, entre otras, el de usar el arsenal teórico de la antropología y también el de exotizar (y exorcizar) a dicho movimiento.

Desarraigo, podría ser el tema que atraviesa esta novela del reconocido escritor nacido en Fez, Ben Jelloum. Constituida como un imponente fresco de un inmigrante marroquí en la vieja metrópoli, esta novela va recorriendo palmo a palmo, la desazón y desencanto del sueño europeo vivida acaso por cientos o miles de inmigrantes que cruzando el mar, llegan en pos de aquellos valores supuestamente incorporados a la modernidad: prosperidad, ahorro, hijos en la nueva tierra y el reconocimiento de su identidad cultural en medio de la diáspora.
