Objective. The objective of this review is to analyze the most recent evidence on the usefulness of glucocorticoids in patients with Inflammation Related to Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (IrCAA). Methods. Systematic review. A bibliographic search was carried out in the search engines and databases PubMed, ScienceDirect, Embase, EBSCO and MEDLINE databases, including any article related to the evaluation of the usefulness, efficacy or safety of glucocorticoids on inflammation of the cerebral amyloid angiopathy, would be included, giving priority to original studies and systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Results. It was found that the current evidence on its use is limited, deriving mainly from case reports, case series and retrospective studies. However, it seems that these agents cause a favorable response with partial resolution of the neurological manifestations immediately and/or pro...

Introduction: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) has become the gold standard for diagnosis and treatment of choledocholithiasis. The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) in 2010 proposed stratifying patients into 3 risk levels; however, studies have found controversial results about the predictive parameters of these diagnostic criteria. The objective of this study is to determine the performance of the high-risk predictive criteria of the ASGE 2010 in the diagnosis of choledocholithiasis in a Colombian Caribbean population. Methods: Retrospective cross-sectional study, which included patients with suspected choledocholithiasis, and who were taken for evaluation by ERCP, meeting the criteria proposed by the ASGE of high probability. The result obtained was compared with the presence of choledocholithiasis on ERCP, from which values and...

Introduction: Is a risk factor for morbidity, mortality and disability in older adults, so its management is a priority in geriatrics. The aim of this article is to characterize a population of older adults from two geriatric homes and to establish the prevalence of sarcopenia and the degree of dependence. Methods: Cross-sectional study developed in the city of Pereira-Colombia. A population of 72 adults from 65 to 98 years of age was included, using probability sampling. Sarcopenia was determined by means of the Criteria of the European Consensus on Definition and Diagnosis of Sarcopenia, evaluating grip strength, skeletal muscle mass index, in case of sarcopenia, the severity of sarcopenia together with walking speed, and the degree of dependence according to the Barthel scale.  Results: 57 people participated. A total of 68.4% (n=39) were women. The median age was 83 years. Two p...

Objective: To determine the progress and research patterns on stem cells applied to plastic surgery. Methods: Cross-sectional bibliometric study. A semi-structured search was conducted in the Scopus database. Results: A total of 1,735 articles were included, with the first publication appearing in 1986. Notable growth in publication frequency was observed only after 2005. The scientific output predominantly consisted of original articles (66.5%; n=1,146), followed by reviews (27.9%; n=484). International collaboration was at 22.7%. The University of Michigan and the United States are the most prolific institution and country with the highest impact to date, respectively. The United States, the United Kingdom, China, and Japan are the countries with the most international collaboration. Regarding research patterns, tissue engineering, guided tissue regeneration, cell differentiation, stem...
