The aim of this study was to evaluate the productive and reproductive performance of the Creole egg hen of green shell eggs of the province of Chota, Cajamarca (Peru). Five hundred eggs were collected and artificially incubated to determine their hatchability. In the resulting chicks, the growth in confinement was evaluated for 16 weeks. Then, the birds were mated (5 females and 1 male) and the production and weight of eggs of six biotypes and the hatchability were determined under natural incubation. Significant differences (p<0.05) were found in the growth and size of the six biotypes evaluated. The birds initiated the oviposition between 17 and 19 weeks of age, with periods of posture of seven weeks interrupted by a broody period that could last up to three weeks. The hatchability was influenced by the conditions and types of incubation.

The effect of four dietary levels of lupine seed meal (Lupinus mutabilis, HCH) on growth performance, intestinal tract development and haematological values were evaluated in male turkeys of the one-day BUT line. The turkeys were distributed in four groups with different diets for 56 days: L0 (control) diet without HCH, and L30, L60 and L90 diets containing 30, 60 and 90 g/kg of HCH, respectively. Increased levels of HCH inclusion in the diet, added at the expense of soybean meal, contributed to an increase in fibre concentrations in the experimental diets. Daily feed intake decreased in HCH treatments and feed conversion and bodyweight gain of birds were affected in treatments of 60 and 90 g / kg of HCH inclusion (p<0.05). High dietary levels of HCH led to an increase (p<0.01) of the digesta in the ileum and in the cecum, an increase in the relative tissue mass (p<0.01), ...

Two hundred and forty Hubbard female broilers were used from 35 to 84 days of age to study the effects of alfalfa meal (HA) on the productive performance, carcass characteristics, weight of digestive organs and weight of lymphoid organs. Chickens were bred in the Andean valley of Cajamarca, Peru, at 2750 meters above the sea level, fed diets containing three levels of HA as a partial replacement for corn, soybean meal and rice bran for 49 days. The birds were distributed in three treatments T0 (0% alfalfa meal), T1 (5% alfalfa meal) and T2 (10% alfalfa meal), each treatment with 4 repetitions of 20 birds each. The birds were slaughtered at 12 weeks of age. The body weight gain obtained was different (p<0.05) between treatments (77.4, 76.2 and 72.1 g/day for T0, T1 and T2, respectively). There were no differences between treatments in terms of consumption, feed conversion and carcass y...

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the ratio of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and starch in the diet on productive performance, ingestive ratio and weight of the digestive organs of guinea pig (Cavia porcellus). Five isonitrogenous diets were prepared varying the NDF:starch ratio (PFA): 8.1, 3.5, 2.0, 1.3, and 0.8. In total, 160 28-day-old guinea pigs fed for seven weeks were used. The weight gain and the feed conversion index in the PFA 2.0 and PFA 1.3 groups were better than the other groups (p<0.05), together with a higher carcass performance (p<0.05). The weight gain in PFA 3.5 was greater than in the PFA 8.1 and PFA 0.8 groups (p<0.05). The relative intake of dry matter (DM) and the intake of NDF in the PFA 8.1 group was the highest; however, the digestible energy intake in PFA 8.1 was the lowest (p<0.05). Cecum weight was higher in PFA 8.1, PFA 3.5 an...

The inclusion of a pre-mix of unconventional ingredients (PM-INC) with lupine, vicia, flaxseed and wheat as part of milk replacer (LR) was evaluated. Twenty-four newborn Holstein male calves, distributed in three treatments were used: T1: whole milk (LE), T2 (LR-LDMC): LR with 80% skim milk (LD) + 20% lard, T3 (LR-LDINC): LR with 75% LD + 25% PM-INC. The LE and LR were supplied from birth to weaning (eight weeks), the starter feed was supplied from the second week and alfalfa hay from the sixth week. No significant differences were observed between treatments for feed consumption, ratio feed/gain, body weight, weight gain, or size. However, a lower cost of weaning calf was found for feeding in the LR-LDINC treatment equivalent to S/. 13.37 less with respect to the treatment LE and S/. 13.51 less with respect to the LR-LDMC treatment. It is concluded that, the Holstein male calf...
