The coagulase-positive staphylococci (CoPS) group includes the species S. aureus, S. pseudintermedius, S. intermedius and S. schleiferi subsp. coagulans. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial resistance of CoPS isolated from dogs with external otitis, using the most commonly antibiotics prescribed in the daily clinic to treat this disease. Samples of ear secretions (n=148) were obtained from 104 dogs with external otitis treated in a veterinary clinic in Lima, Peru in a period of six months. Among them, 113 isolates were identified as Staphylococcus sp, of which 105 were CoPS. The isolates showed the greatest resistance to resistance to ciprofloxacin (27.4%) and the greatest sensitivity to nitrofurantoin (82.1%).

Enterobacteriaceae is the family of bacteria with the most reports of antimicrobial resistance, with the greatest impact being those that produce carbapenems, antibiotics used in human medicine for critical cases. Various reports describe Escherichia coli as one of the carriers of these genes due to its easy uptake of plasmids or DNA fragments. In Peru, there are reports of E. coli carrying carbapenemases isolated from humans, but no confirmed work has been done in animals. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of genes associated with carbapenemases in E. coli isolated from healthy pigs from four technologically advanced farms. To do this, 186 E. coli isolates were evaluated using the PCR technique for the detection of blaKPC, blaNDM and blaIMP carbapenemase genes. These genes were not detected in the 186 E. coli isolates analysed.

The aim of the study was to evaluate Escherichia coli isolates for the presence or absence of the f18 and stx2e genes. In total, 186 isolates obtained from piglets under 50 days of age that did not have diarrhoea at the time of sampling were studied. The animals were from four high-tech breeding farms located in the Lima region. Sampling was done in 2019 as part of a preliminary study using rectal swabs. A commercial purification kit was used for DNA extraction and a conventional PCR protocol was used for gene detection. No PCR product for stx2e or f18 could be detected in any of the E. coli isolated from these piglets.
