Candida spp. infections, known as candidiasis, are prevalent among women of reproductive age and increase during pregnancy due to high levels of estrogen. In Peru, studies indicate that Candida non-albicans is more frequent in cases of candidemia. The aim was to determine the resistance or susceptibility to certain types of antifungals in Candida spp. species in pregnant women attending a hospital in the province of Jaén. This study was conducted with 40 pregnant women attended in a hospital in the province of Jaén between July and August 2024. Vaginal samples were collected and analyzed to identify Candida spp. species and assess their susceptibility to the antifungals voriconazole and amphotericin B. Three species of Candida were identified: C. albicans (60.00%), C. glabrata (22.50%), and C. krusei (17.50%). Regarding antifungal susceptibility, C. albicans showed complete resistance ...

Vaginal candidiasis is a common and recurrent infection in women, and the use of probiotics, such as Lactobacillus spp., has been proposed as a therapeutic alternative due to their ability to inhibit the growth of pathogens. The aim of the study was to evaluate the inhibitory activity of Lactobacillus spp. strains isolated from vaginal secretions against C. albicans, C. glabrata, and C. krusei. Samples were obtained from healthy women, and the Lactobacillus spp. strains were identified through phenotypic and biochemical tests. Sensitivity disks impregnated with the supernatant of the Lactobacillus spp. strains were prepared, and their antagonistic effect against Candida spp. species was evaluated by performing three repetitions per species using the disk diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar. It was observed that the L3 strain of Lactobacillus spp. had an inhibition zone of up to 10 mm...
