Subprosthetic stomatitis is the inflammation of the oral mucosa in contact with the prosthesis and mainly affects older adults, due to the changes that occur in the oral cavity over time. This condition becomes an oral health problem with systemic implications, since diabetes mellitus triggers a wide variety of oral disorders that complicate the oral and general health of patients. Objective. To collect updated information regarding subprosthetic stomatitis in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods. This work is the result of a bibliographic search of articles in English and Spanish, published in the last 5 years.
