La atención educativa para los niños y niñas menores de cuatro años es fundamental si deseamos contar con ciudadanos capaces de lograr una mejor nación, pero ello implica un gran esfuerzo por parte de todos los involucrados en la atención de esta población. Se requiere elevar el nivel profesional de los docentes en la temática referida a la niñez temprana, se trata de empezar a cambiar paradigmas y dar paso a una visión más completa y activa de los niños y niñas pequeños/as. La presente investigación tiene como propósito analizar la viabilidad del instrumento Inventario del Desarrollo Infantil (INDI) de origen uruguayo al contexto urbano peruano en Instituciones Educativas del nivel inicial Ciclo 2, que corresponde a niños y niñas entre 3 a 5 años de edad. La investigación es mixta: cuanti – cualitativa, de tipo tecnológico y diseño transversal, descriptivo y se desarrolló en dos etapas. La primera etapa consistió en la adecuación cultural con una muestra de 16 maestras del Ciclo 2 que laboran en zonas urbanas de las Regiones de Piura, Cusco, Andahuaylas, Junín, Loreto, Lima e Ica. A partir del análisis con las maestras, se procedió a realizar los ajustes iniciales obteniendo una primera versión del INDI-Perú urbano.
