Objective. The purpose of this study was to compare the changes by conical beam computed tomography in the condylar positioning of Class III patients before and after a sagittal osteotomy of the bilateral mandibular ramus in Class III indicated for mandibular retroposition. Methods. Thirty patients were analyzed, 16 women and 14 men with an age range of 15 to 40 years and untreated Class III dentofacial deformity who were attended by diagnostic consultation during the period from 2013 to 2016 at the “General Ignacio Zaragoza” Regional Hospital (CDMX, Mexico), performing measurements of the condylar position in three stages: presurgical, intermediate (4 days after surgery) and final (9 months after surgery), in two planes: sagittal section and coronal section. Results. No significant difference was observed in the anterior, central and posterior spaces before (2.56 ± 0.55 mm; 1.78 ±...

Squamous cell carcinoma arises from the epithelium of the oral mucosa, common in the fifth and sixth decades of life and is typically associated with risk factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Worldwide, the incidence of oral cancer is higher among men than women. The increase in the incidence of cancer in Mexico requires proper management and the use of vascularized flaps to repair defects generated by a hemimandibulectomy with safety margins. Despite the advent of vascularized free tissue grafts, the myocutaneous pectoralis major flap remains a pedunculated flap widely used for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the oral and maxillofacial region. The surgical protocol carried out at the ISSSTE “General Ignacio Zaragoza” Regional Hospital for the treatment of mandibular squamous cell carcinoma is shown.

Myositis ossificans is a rare entity characterized by heterotopic bone deposition in soft tissues, being located mainly in muscle, two variants have been described: progressive myositis ossificans (PMO) and traumatic myositis ossificans (TMO). The objective of this article is to report the first case of TOM diagnosed in Mexico, in an 11-year-old female patient, after enucleation of the dentigerous cyst, developed progressive limitation to the oral opening, pain and trismus, to the physical examination without palpation of mass or deformities within the cavity, with an oral opening of 0 mm; The tomographic and reconstruction study identified a well-defined hyperdense image compatible with calcification at the level of the medial pterygoid muscle. The lesion was resected, confirming the diagnosis by histopathology. Nowadays the patient currently clinical surveillance and physical therapy s...

The calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is rare and represents <1% of all odontogenic cysts, it belongs to the lesions known as “ghost cell tumors”, these are a family of lesions that vary in clinical presentation of cyst or solid neoplasia, in their behavior biological from benign to locally aggressive or metastatic, this diversity has generated extensive debate on the classification, terminology, management and prognosis of these pathologies. We present the clinical case of a 17-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of calcifying odontogenic cyst associated with a complex odontoma located in the posterior region of the maxilla, in the literature there are only 27 reported cases of (COC) in that area, he was treated by surgical enucleation, curettage, rotation of the buccal fat pad and placement of titanium mesh to reconstruct the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. The clinical...
