Mental health has evolved as a main sanitary goal at national level because of the more participative, inclusive and equitable rostrum of current health politics. Political violence, present during the last twenty years in our country, has had high social, economical, moral and health costs. Today's impact is evidenced not only by the generation that lived the armed conflict, but also by the following generations. Feelings of distrust, fear and hopelessness are interlaced with the projects of development and generation of social capital in rural populations, decreasing their well-being and productivity. El estrés y los trastornos emocionales en los estudiantesconstituyen unaproblemática importante a nivel mundial, sobre todo en las escuelas de medicina. Objetivos: Determinar los niveles de estrés, manifestaciones psicosomáticas y estrategias de afrontamiento en estudiantes de medicina de primero, cuarto y séptimo año de una Universidad Privada de Lima en el año 2012. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, de corte transversal, con una muestra de 187 alumnos formada por 52,9 % varones y 47,1 mujeres, con una media de edades de 23,34 ± 1,70 años. Se utilizó análisis de frecuencias y porcentajes por sexo y año de estudio.
