A retrospective study of 31 eclamptic patients, giving an incidence of 2 eclamptic 0.6 per 1,000 births, including 4 patients died giving a specific maternal mortality rate of 1,600 per 10,000 live births is presented. 96.8% were patients without prenatal care. The variety antepartum was more frequent with an incidence of 83.9%. Maternal mortality was higher in patients older than 30 years (37%) all the mothers who died had spontaneous labor, the causes of death were renal failure (two cases) and hepatic rupture cerebral edema (one case ed one).

In the General Hospital Base Cayetano Heredia retrospective study of 28 newborns of mothers with eclampsia was carried out between June 1969 to June 1974, fetal mortality was 21.3% in hospital fetal mortality corrected 15.5%, there was also 22.6% newborns with severe hypoxia, 23.5% with moderate hypoxia and 32.1% with mild hypoxia. Multiparous patients and spontaneous labors had the highest percentage of fetal mortality, fetal mortality only had the variety of antepartum eclampsia, fetal mortality and severe hypoxia are inversely proportional to fetal weight. We had abdominal fetal mortality in childbirth.

Retrospective, transversal, clinical, epidemiological, case-control 75 maternal deaths in the Cayetano Heredia National Hospital (HNCH) between 1985 and 1992. 464 caesarean operations between the years 1968 to 1972 with an incidence of 12.27 percent were reviewed. Studies on the age, parity, indications, anesthetic, types of Casarea and complications occurred in these patients is made. The most common indications were iteratively (36.8%) cesarean, cephalo pelvic disproportion (18.3%) and fetal suffering (12%). Unlike previous cesarean it was found in four patients. In three patients cesarean hysterectomy was performed. The post-operative mobility was 16.1%.

A retrospective study of 34 maternal deaths per septic abortion occurred in the Cayetano Heredia Hospital in Lima, Peru, during the period from 1975 to 1984, with a mortality rate of septic abortion from 71.74 deaths per ten thousand abortions. La elevada mortalidad materna y de los niños menores de cinco años son una lacra social y grave problema de salud pública en el Perú, que es urgente disminuir para poder cumplir las metas de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio propuestos por la OMS, una de ellas es reducir la mortalidad materna en tres cuartas partes entre 1990 y 2015, será necesario disminuir la tasa de MM en nuestro país por debajo de 88 por 100000 nacidos vivos, lo cual es imposible de alcanzar si no hay decisión política y el trabajo de todos los que laboran en la atención de la mujer.
