El manejo del cultivo de la quinua y cañihua es necesaria debido a que fitoparásitos como los nematodos atacan sin dar señales de sintomatología, en tanto pueden llegar a impedir el paso de nutrientes y el normal crecimiento de la planta. En la región de Puno el género Globodera spp. es el que ocasiona más pérdidas, tanto para la quinua como para la cañihua, no entanto no existen reportes para Meloidogyne spp. siendo por ello los siguientes objetivos: Identificar los diferentes géneros de nemátodos fitoparásitos en los cultivos de quinua y cañihua en las principales zonas de producción de la región de Puno; estimar la densidad poblacional de los géneros de nemátodos fitoparásitos en los cultivos de quinua y cañihua; verificar la resistencia y/o susceptibilidad de variedades de quinua y cañihua al nemátodo del nodulo de la raíz (Meloidogyne spp.) en invernadero.
