Objective: To compare the soft tissue thickness of the chin in individuals with different patterns of facial growth on lateral cephalic radiographs of the digital skull in individuals between 18 and 45 years of age. Material and Methods: a correlational study was carried out evaluating 160 lateral radiographs using a 13.3-inch screen using AutoCAD 2020 software obtained from a radiological center in the city of Cuenca, in the period 2019. It was divided into four groups according to the pattern of facial growth (SN / G-Gn): Low, Medium Low, Medium High and High and the thickness of the soft tissues of the chin was measured sagittally at the Pogonion, Gnation and Menton level of the bone structures at their respective points in soft tissues. The Spearman Rho correlation was used to evaluate the means of the thickness of the soft tissues of the chin and facial pattern, for the comparison b...

Objetive. Dental crowding added to poor oral hygiene can lead to gingival and dental pathologies and cause aesthetic and functional problems of the stomatognathic system. The objective of this study was correlate dental crowding and Oral Hygiene in 12 year old school students in the urban area "El vecino" of the city of Cuenca, Ecuador.   Materials and Methods. documentary study was carried out, descriptive with a relational level, retrospective, based on the macro study of the Epidemiological Map of Oral Health of Cuenca, of the year 2016. The entire population was used, a total of 278 clinical records of 12 year old schoolchildren. The statistical test applied a Tau-b Kendall Match Coefficient with a safety level of 95% (p< 0.05). Results. The presence of previous dental crowding was 41.7%, the most common was mild at 60.3%. Oral Hygiene levels were good at 60.4%, followed by re...

Objective: To assess the presence of microorganisms on the surfaces of sterile instruments in the periodontics area of a university pre-professional practice clinic. Materials and methods: A descriptive and observational study, in which 100 randomly selected samples of periodontics instruments were selected. The samples collected were analyzed using cultures on specific media, including blood agar, Sabouraud agar, and eosin methylene blue agar, which enabled the primary identification of four classes of microorganisms: Gram-positive cocci, Gram-positive bacilli, Gram-negative bacilli, and yeasts. Results: Of the instruments analyzed, 19% (n = 19) were contaminated. The highest contamination rate was observed in Gracey 3/4 periodontal curettes, with 30% (n = 12), in which only gram-positive cocci were identified, with no positive results for gram-positive bacilli, gram-negative bacilli, o...

Objective: To determine the relationship between the decayed/missing/filled teeth (DMFT) index and self-perceived limitation in speaking clearly in 12-year-old schoolchildren from the ¨El Batán¨ parish in Cuenca-Ecuador. Materials and methods: This was an observational study, with a retrospective relational level, consisting of 154 reports, corresponding to 104 girls and 50 boys. The DMFT variables and limitation to speak clearly were analyzed by descriptive statistics and correlation was determined by means of the Kendall's Tau-b statistical test. Results: The DMFTindex was very low with 32.5%, followed by a medium of 29.5%; while the impact of the limitation to speak clearly affected 35.6% of the females and 46.0% of the males. The relationship between the DMFT index and the limitation to speak clearly was significant (p = 0.000), with a low positive association (0.301). It was also...
