Pastors of the doctrine of Canta appear as a special economic activity surprise, going back several years ago. The Priests canteños functioned as effective extraction of surplus indigenous, appropriate for several extra ways or mechanisms, and incorporating the most part, the expansive colonial urban market, while also producing for domestic consumption in the community. Moreover, this work is a sample of cases conducted by the Indian doctrine of Canta, during the seventeenth century, against its priests.

This article comprises the proceedings in the town of Santiago province Aija in the path of Huaylas. It is a denunciation of idolatrand other excesses that the cacique Don Diego de Yaruparia committed in his village in 1672, and documentation consists of 38 folios votes. The person in charge of the investigation was the visitor Ignacio Castelbi, by special request of Archbishop Pedro de Villagomez. The mission was entrusted to the removal and punishment of idolatry and superstition existing among the Indians of the province of Huaylas.

The first two Councils Limenses thus laid the foundation of the church in the Andes and determined the broad guidelines to be followed by all who profess the Catholic faith. e prelates and o­cials proclaim the rules to be observed by the Indians who received baptism, and cared for those who were not yet baptized. is attempt of adaptation is re ected in the norms issued by the said Council in the part concerning the evangelization of the natives. El tema de investigación es sobre los mecanismos de control social e ideológico de la Iglesia Católica y del Estado Colonial en torno a las parroquias de indígenas a través del adoctrinamiento, las visitas eclesiásticas, y la extirpación de las idolatrías. Y además estudio la relación interna de los doctrineros con la población indígena, la participación de los sacerdotes en la economía durante los siglos XVI y XVII. Este estudio analiza una zona específica de la sierra de Lima, correspondiente a la antigua doctrina de Nuestra Señora de La Limpia Concepción de Canta en el Arzobispado limeño.

Analiza algunos aspectos que rodearon el surgimiento del proceso de evangelización y control social en el arzobispado de Lima, pero específicamente en la doctrina de Yauyos, durante el siglo XVI y XVII. Como se sabe, el tema de las campañas de extirpación de las idolatrías y de las visitas pastorales y eclesiásticas en la doctrina de Yauyos, es uno de los temas más interesantes de la historia eclesiástica colonial. Pero también uno de los difíciles por la cantidad de problemas que plantea y la diversidad y factores que involucra. Esto da origen, a su vez, a la multiplicidad de puntos de vista desde los cuales el fenómeno se presta a ser abordado.
