In this article, the author explains the importance of the evolution of the applicable rules to the delimitation of maritime spaces, taking into consideration the general rules and principles of International Law, customary law and the special and relevant circumstances of each case, making this evolution materialize into a body of rules, the article concludes with a reflection on the current status of the mentioned body.

The article presents some interactions between politics and international law, based on a perspective of international law as a decision-making process in appropriate fora (New Haven School), in particular the UN and its main organs (the General Assembly and the Security Council). After outlining the relationship between international law and politics in the context of the progressive development of international law and its codification, the article elaborates some ideas through two main parts: international criminal justice and collective security.
