Objective. To determine the characteristics of the prescription-indication of antibiotics in pregnant women at the Nacional Maternal Perinatal Institute (INMP), July 2019 - June 2021. Materials and Methods. The research was of basic type, deductive method with quantitative approach of non-experimental design, cross-sectional and retrospective. The sample consisted of 328 medical records, the information was collected in a validated instrument, the database was created in Microsoft Excel and then analyzed by the SPSS program. Results.  A moderate level of 73% was identified with respect to antibiotic prescription-indication characteristics. The most frequent indications were preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis (31.7%) and urinary tract infection (28.66%). La investigación tuvo como objetivo: Determinar las características de la prescripción-indicación de antibióticos en gestantes del Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal, julio 2019 - junio 2021. Metodología: Tipo aplicada, método deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, no experimental, transversal y retrospectivo. Se trabajó con 328 Historias clínicas, recolectamos en un instrumento validado, en Microsoft Excel y se analizó en IBM SPSS versión 24. Resultados: Se identificó un nivel moderado de 73% con respecto a las características de prescripción - indicación de antibióticos, indicaciones más frecuentes fueron la profilaxis antibiótica pre operatoria en 31,7%, infección del tracto urinario en 28,66%, el especialista Gineco-obstetra prescribió en 95% y hubo mayor frecuencia de prescripción en el tercer trimestre con 82,1%.
