Las fracturas del platillo tibial (FPT) ocasionadas por traumatismos han cobrado en la actualidad relevancia, principalmente en la atención de urgencias en ortopedia y traumatología. 1 Se considera que este tipo de lesiones puede representar aproximadamente el 1% del total de fracturas que se produce en los pacientes jóvenes y alcanza hasta un 8% en pacientes ancianos. En los pacientes jóvenes, por la mayor densidad ósea y por ende, la mayor resistencia de esta, suele presentarse con mayor frecuencia fracturas de tipo cizallamiento con desplazamiento, que se asocian con mayor frecuencia a lesiones de partes blandas, especialmente ligamentarias, siendo estas últimas, importante para decidir el tratamiento. This is a descriptive study, reviewing medica] records of 155 elderly patients with hip fracture diagnosis in Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital in the períod 2007- 2011, in order to know what are the epidemiological characteristics: Age, gender, national origin, marital status, occupation, comorbidities, fracture type, place of occurrence and production mechanism, whose main conclusions were: the most common age group was 80 to 89 years with 47%, female gender was the most frequent (73%), most of the patients carne from the district of Trujillo (73%), the state of widowhood corresponded to 38.7% and is the most common occupation of housewife, 53.5%.
