In Peru, from May 2021 to March 2022, hospital care was restricted due to the second and third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this period a large number of cases of acute respiratory infections increased. With increasing resistance to antibacterials, the search for and identification of carbapenemase co-producing Enterobacteriaceae is of paramount therapeutic importance because it limits the use of available antibiotics. Objective: To determine the Enterobacterales species that present carbapenemase: KPC, NMD and OXA 48 in patients treated in a COVID hospital in Trujillo-Peru, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: In this descriptive, observational study, biological samples were collected from patients treated in general medicine, emergency, and intensive care units - ICU of Hospital IV "Víctor Lazarte Echegaray" for bacterial identification and sensitivity to carbapenems. r...

Background and Objectives: In Peru, the presence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria is a constant concern in hospitals and has likely increased in frequency during the pandemic. The objective of the study was to analyze the frequency of carbapenemase-producing bacteria resistant to two carbapenems (Imipenem and Meropenem), which were isolated from Peruvian patients in the intensive care unit of the Victor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital in Trujillo (Peru) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: The biological samples of the patients hospitalized in the ICU were processed in the Microbiology Diagnostic Laboratory of the Víctor Lazarte Echegaray Hospital between May 2021 and March 2022. Antimicrobial sensitivity was determined with the automated system AutoScan-4, and for the identification of the type of carbapenemase, the RESISIT-3 O.K.N K-SET cassettes were used. Results: The ...

The present study aimed to determine the type of carbapenemase present in Enterobactales, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter spp. isolated from patients hospitalized in the ICU of Hospital IV "Víctor Lazarte Echegaray", during the COVID-19 pan-demic. In this descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study, biological samples were collected from patients hospitalized in the ICU, processed in the Microbiology Diagnostic Laboratory of Hospital IV "Víctor Lazarte Echegaray". Antimicrobial identification and sensitivity were performed with the AutoScan-4 automated system, and the RESISIT-3 O.K.N K-SET cassettes were used to identify the type of carbapenemase. Of a total of 129 cultures, 58,9% were found to be resistant to at least one carbapenem (Meropenem or Imipenem), of which 59,2% were Enterobacterales, 26,3% were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 14.5% were% Acinetobacter...
