El Perú se encuentra en un contexto donde el rol de las lenguas originarias se está repensando, tanto en el ámbito interior como en el exterior. Puesto que el Perú alberga la mayor cantidad de quechuahablantes en la región, no es novedad que las lenguas peruanas tengan una función en la política exterior peruana y, más específicamente, la diplomacia cultural.
