This research analyzed the variables that contribute to self-organization within the general framework for analysing the sustainability of socioecological systems (SES). In our case study, a correlation analysis showed that 80% of the variables contribute to the self-organization of the community in relation to the key resource: family land. There was evidence of land use transition, initially dependent on agrosilvopastoral system, towards diverse economic activities and with it also the inclusion of informal norms (institutional bricolage). These changes stem from two circumstances that threaten community organization. Significant participation of mining activities in the economic indicators of countries and extraction of raw materials to produce goods is relevant to evaluate management of the social - ecological systems in which they operate. This article proposes a methodology that integrates design principles (resource use rules), resilience principles (adaptive strategies that respond to disturbances) and principles linked to good practices promoted in the sector. Relacionar una perturbación (pandemia de COVID-19) cuya principal consecuencia es la salud y el corto plazo, con otra (cambio climático) cuya principal consecuencia es socio- ambiental y a largo plazo, es inusual; sin embargo, el efecto de la gestión pública frente a la pandemia y el cambio climático debilitó la resiliencia social del país.
