The aim of this work was to evaluate the water system and the sediments of a temporary pond, in addition to describe the life cycle and asses sex proportions of D. affinis in laboratory conditions. The pond was sampled during the years 2010 - 2012, the physicochemical of the water, granulometry and heavy metals of the sediment were also evaluated. Simultaneously, we took samples of the sediment to collect the cysts that were used to describe the life cycle, survival and sex proportions at laboratory. During the rainy season, the pond showed mesotrophic conditions and in the dry season high organic load. The muddy soil was dominant and allowed the water retention. The heavy metals values were found in the normal ranges of similar systems. The macroinvertebrates associated to the pond were formed by seven orders and 28 genera, which Hemiptera and Coleoptera orders were the most abundant wi...

Eighteen species of cladocerans are recorded from a temporary pond in northern Colombia; 12 of these records are new for La Guajira Department: Diaphanosoma brevireme Sars, 1901, D. dentatum Herbst, 1968, Sarsilotona serricauda (Sars, 1901), Moina micrura micrura Kurz, 1874, M. reticulata Daday, 1905, Grimaldina freyi Neretina and Kotov, 2017, Kurzia polyspina Hudec, 2000, Leydigia cf. striata Birabén, 1939, Ovalona cf. glabra (Sars, 1905), Chydorus nitidulus (Sars, 1901), Dunhevedia crassa King, 1853 and Pseudosida sp.; this latter taxon could be an yet undescribed species. The cladoceran fauna from the surveyed area is represented mostly by widespread species and commonly found in the Neotropical regions, but local morphological data are scarce in the regional literature. Brief diagnostic descriptions of the species recorded for the Colombian cladoceran fauna are provided together wit...

From the analysis of plankton samples from a temporary pond of northern Colombia some female specimen of the daphinid cladoceran Scapholeberis freyi Dumont and Pensaert, 1983 was collected. It represents the first report in Colombia and expands its known occurrence in South America. The specimens observed are described and compared with available morphological data of their closest congeners. A brief descriptions of this taxon based on Colombian material is given.

Three species of harpacticoids are herein recorded from the zooplankton of Rodadero beach, Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. Samples were collected from the littoral zone, mainly at inshore areas covered by mangrove vegetation and in an adjacent oyster bank. One of them, Laophonte cornuta Philippi, 1840 is new to the Colombian harpacticoid fauna, the other two species: Distioculus minor (Scott T., 1894) and Microsetella norvegica (Boeck, 1865) are new reports to the Magdalena department. This is the first illustrated record confirming their presence in Colombia and Magdalena, northern Colombia. Comparative morphological comments and illustrations of these species are also provided to document this report.

Large branchiopods has been distributed in temporary waters around the world, but the knowledge about these organisms in Colombia is poorly known, especially leptesteriids, we report a new record of the Clam Shrimp Leptestheria venezuelica Daday, 1923 from the north of Colombia.

Thirty-nine cladoceran species were recorded from La Venturosa lagoon in the Orinoquia region of Colombia. Of these, 17 species represent new records for the Meta Department, and Leydigiopsis curvirostris Sars, 1901 is reported for the first time in Colombia. With these additions, the total number of cladoceran species known from Colombia and the Meta Department increases to 127 and 58, respectively. The cladoceran fauna of the surveyed area is composed mainly of widespread species commonly found in Neotropical regions, although local morphological information remains scarce in the regional literature. Here, we provide brief diagnostic descriptions of the most relevant species recorded in the Meta Department, together with illustrations of taxonomically significant appendages, morphological remarks, notes on intraspecific variability, and distributional data.
