The Copiapó-Tierra Amarilla conurbation is a sacrificial territory in which there is an environmental crisis derived from bad development, in which environmental degradation and suffering are prioritized over the life of people and ecosystems. The main objective of this research was to understand the sacrificial practices deployed by the women of Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla regarding the sacrifice of life in contexts of environmental degradation and suffering. The study is qualitative in nature and resorts to a narrative design, focused on a case study, in which narrative interviews are applied to 28 different women, social leaders of Copiapó and Tierra Amarilla in a fieldwork conducted in its first phase in 2019 and in a second phase in 2024. The study seeks to identify the sacrificial practices present in the subjectivities and corporealities of women in the commune of Tierra Amarilla, Atacama region, Chile. The commune is a sacrificial zone marked by the high presence of extractive mining companies. The notion of sacrifice, worked theoretically from different authors, gives rise to the analysis of the sacrificial practices to which women resort to face the effects of sacrifice in their lives daily. In this way, qualitative research is proposed, with a narrative and exploratory approach, carried out through a case study. Based on semi-structured narrative interviews, we inquired into the sacrificial practices developed by the participants of the study. Qualitative research that investigates the knowledge and cultural practices of the diaguita women of the Chilean northern Chico and their relationship with ancestral medicine. The diaguita have been made invisible as protagonists of the healing processes, in an andro-centered and subalternizing treatment, which contrasts with the abundant evidence on the importance of women in the survival of ancestral medicine. The methodology was based on a feminist ethnography carried out in the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo (Chile), between 2021 and 2023, with traditional diaguita authorities. The results show the characteristics, elements and strategies used in the healing processes developed by diaguita women, also highlighting the importance of medicinal plants.
