This article intends to present a portrait of Ciro Alegria and his work, from the perspective of the French scholar Henry Bonneville. This critical reflections developed from studying the work of the Peru, an writer, but also their friendship with him, using as key material, correspondence exchanged between them. The outcome of the Bonneville approach to the work of Joy, it appears that French critic's admiration for the Peruvian writer, not only in terms of artistic quality, but also his qualities as an intellectual and a man committed to his country.

El presente artículo se propone exponer el retrato de Ciro Alegría y de su obra, desde la perspectiva del estudioso francés Henry Bonneville. Este crítico, desarrolló sus reflexiones a partir del estudio de la obra del escritor peruano, pero también de su amistad con él, utilizando como material importante, la correspondencia intercambiada entre ellos.  Del resultado del acercamiento de Bonneville a la obra de Alegría, se desprende la admiración del crítico francés por el escritor peruano, no solo en cuanto a su calidad artística, sino también a sus cualidades como intelectual y hombre comprometido con su país.
