The present cross-sectional descriptive type research was conducted in the emergency service of the Belén de Lambayeque Hospital between the months of January to July 2018 with the purpose of determining the relationship between the level of knowledge and the degree of compliance with the washing of hands in the nursing staff, of the emergency area of the Belén Lambayeque Hospital, the sample universe was constituted by 17 nurses who met the established inclusion criteria, to collect the data a questionnaire was used to determine the level of knowledge and a Guide Non-participant Observation Check List type to determine compliance. En Lambayeque, la pandemia puso de manifiesto que la tarea más importante es planificar actividades: reforzar el primer nivel de atención, dotación de insumos, contar con un laboratorio óptimo y pruebas diagnósticas, educación masiva a la población usando redes sociales, fortalecer la vigilancia epidemiológica con personal más capacitado, la notificación oportuna de los casos, posicionar al recurso humano tanto en primera línea asistencial para mejor manejo de los casos, como aquel que está detrás de la información epidemiológica, tomando en cuenta que la prevención es la mejor planificación. Estas acciones en la región, permitirán tomar mejores decisiones para lo que venga en el futuro.
