The article demonstrate the environmental and social cost the urban mobility system in the Metropolitan Area of Lima. The methodological design is exploratory and descriptive, for which a quantitative and qualitative secondary data source is used. The article shows that the higher environmental costs of the urban transport system area associated with the high consumption of non-renewable resources; and in the social costs, motorized vehicles overlap citizens.

Although for decades the widespread use of the automobile as a means of transport in cities has been questioned, and today many cities focus on calming traffic with policies restricting the use of the car, and / or betting on more displacement modes. sustainable, which corresponds to the offer of spaces adapted to all modes of movement (motorized and non-motorized), in a clear correspondence with the movement patterns of its citizens. However, in the city of Lima it is still committed to motorized and private driving modes, despite the fact that the majority of its population travels by public transport. From this article it is intended to show how this "classic approach to urban mobility" is constituted as a factor of exclusion of the mobility system for various groups.

A pesar que desde hace décadas el uso generalizado del automóvil como medio de transporte en las ciudades ha sido cuestionado, y hoy muchas ciudades se enfocan en calmar el tráfico con políticas de restricción del uso del automóvil, y/o apostando por modos de desplazamientos más sostenible, que se reflejan en la oferta de espacios adaptados a todos los modos de desplazamientos (motorizados y no motorizados), en una clara correspondencia con las pautas de desplazamientos de sus ciudadanos.
