The aim of this study was to provide psychometric evidence of the functioning of the De Jong Gierveld’s Loneliness Scale in university students from Argentina. An empirical instrumental research was conducted, in a sample of 307 university students, between 18 and 54 years old. The Spanish translation of the De Jong Gierveld’s Loneliness Scale and the Spanish translation for Argentina of the Patient's Health Questionnaire were administered. The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis suggested that this instrument should be considered bidimensional, with an equitable distribution of elements in each factor representing social and emotional loneliness, respectively. The factor loadings of the items were very good, indicating that the indicators are properly related to their respective dimensions. The internal consistency was optimal. These results show that the scale is homogeneou...

Perfectionism may be understood as the tendency to set high and irrational standards, to stringently self evaluate and to asses self-worth based on achievementor failure. The cognitive model proposes the identification of cognitive profiles comprised of: schemas, beliefs, cognitive distortions, automatic thoughts and coping. The aim of this work was to describe maladaptive perfectionist’s cognitive profile. A non-systematic scientific literature review was made and empiric evidence was found. Maladaptive perfectionist's cognitive profile was described as the presence of schemas belonging to the disconnection/reject domain; beliefs about one’s need to be perfect and beliefs about contingent self-worth; biased interpretation of perfection, attentional bias and dichotomous thinking; perfectionistic automatic thoughts that associate with general negative cognitions, which tend to be main...

Maladaptive perfectionism is the tendency to self-impose unrealistic goals and stringent performance standards, to worry excessively about making mistakes, and to engage in auto-critical self-evaluation. This attribute could negatively impact the psychological well-being of children. The objective of this work was to describe maladaptive perfectionism manifestations in children, and to assess its differences according to sex, school grade, kind of educational institution (public or private), and region of origin. An empiric, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was made. Participants were 1067 children between 9 and 12 years old, students of public and private schools from two Argentinian provinces (Misiones and Entre Ríos). Results verified the presence of maladaptive perfectionism during early childhood. The most salient manifestation of perfectionism was self-oriented, espec...

Loneliness is an affective state characterized by a subjective experience that is accompanied by a negative evaluation of social networks, in terms of the quantity and quality of social ties. In the Argentinean scientific literature, this issue is usually approached from a quantitative point of view, and no studies were found that sought to understand the subjective aspects of this experience in children. Therefore, this study aims to describe loneliness from the perspective of children aged 8 to 12 in the city of Posadas and to analyze childhood loneliness from the the multidimensional model of Hymel et al. (1999) to assess its suitability. A qualitative and descriptive study was carried out. The sample consisted of 34 children aged between 8 and 12 years. With the consent of the children’s parents, semi-structured interviews consisting of four questions about loneliness were conducte...
