In this article the author presents a valuable document written by General Guillermo Milller about a journey he undertook to the east of Cusco in July 1835. From the author's point of view the document is especially noteworthy not only because of Miller's insights, but also because it reports one of the first attempts to colonize the Peruvian jungle in the early 19th century.

César Pacheco Vélez (1929-1989) was a professor at Universidad del Pacífico, who recently published his book Essays of Sympathy. To comment the legacy of César Pacheco Vélez, and especially his last work, the Editorial Committee of the university convened a discussion group that we transcribe here. This was held at the Centre of Research of the same university and featured college professors of different generations who knew César Pacheco Vélez.

César Pacheco Vélez (1929-1989) fue profesor principal de la Universidad del Pacífico, que recientemente publicó su obra Ensayos de Simpatía. Para comentar el legado de César Pacheco Vélez, y especialmente esta última obra, el Comité Editorial de esta casa de estudios convocó el conversa torio que transcribimos a continuación. Éste se realizó en el Centro de Investigación de la misma y contó con la participación de profesores universitarios de distintas generaciones que conocieron a César Pacheco Vélez.
