To determine whether age, duration of symptoms, fever, Alvarado score ≥7 and leukocytosis are risk factors associated with CAA in children. Materials and methods: Observational, analytical and retrospective case-control study. We reviewed 105 medical records of children aged 2 to 14 years with acute appendicitis under selection criteria. Logistic regression was used in the analysis. Results: We found an association between CAA and leukocytosis > 15 000/ml (OR 2.39; 95% CI: 1.04-5.51; p = 0.038) and Alvarado scale score ≥ 7 (OR 4.04; 95% CI: 1.28-12.80; p = 0.013). No significant association was found between CAA and age < 6 years (OR 0.33; 95% CI: 0.07-1.56; p = 0.142), duration of symptoms ≥ 48 hours (OR 1.15; 95% CI: 0.47-2.77; p =0.762) or body temperature ≥ 38.5 °C (OR 1.55; 95% CI: 0.33-7.33; p = 0.58).
