Infection with the hepatitis B and C virus continues to be a public health problem with high mortality and worldwide distribution, with an estimated 2000 million people infected. Peru is considered as an area of intermediate endemicity for HBV with average prevalences of 1-2% for HBsAg and 20-30% for anti-HBcAg. In the Peruvian highlands, some inter-Andean valleys of the eastern slope of the Andean mountain range such as Abancay and Huanta are considered hyperendemic regions due to the high rates of HBsAg carriers. The purpose of this work is to estimate the prevalence and determinants of Hepatitis B and C virus. With the results obtained, we intend to collaborate in the development of useful epidemiological surveillance plans in our environment.
