During the high-water period, a total of 23 fish acquired from artisanal fishermen at the mouth of the Gaira River in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (SNSM) were processed with the objective of analyzing the parasitic helminthic fauna and its capacity to produce zoonoses. The hosts had their abdominal cavity, the surface of the viscera and the swim bladder checked for helminths. The identification of these was based on the description of the morphological characteristics observed through optical microscopy. To characterize the infection of each parasite species, ecological parameters such as prevalence (P), mean infection intensity (MI) and parasitic infestation rate were calculated.
