This article presents the state of the art about the relationship between family and academic performance. A systematic search was conducted in journal articles published between 2015 and 2020, indexed in the Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO) and Scopus databases. The information is organized on four family variables: parenting style, family organization, the presence of family crises, migration and multiculturalism; in international information and local information. A positive relationship was found between academic performance and an early family involvement, an authoritative parenting style, good family functioning, a good attitude towards adverse life events or coming from Latino or Asian migrant families. Future perspectives and recommendations are presented, under a psychological and multidisciplinary vision.
