In 2020, a study identified that childhood diarrheal disease was statistically associated with mothers' educational level. Receiving education can increase knowledge about diarrhea transmission and prevention methods, improve household health and sanitation practices, and encourage behavior change at the household level (14). According to the WHO, diarrhea remains the second leading cause of child mortality worldwide. Nearly one in five child deaths is due to diarrheal disease. Diarrheal diseases kill more young children than malaria, HIV/AIDS, and measles combined (4). Diarrheal disease negatively impacts the growth and development of infants and young children. Worldwide, an average of 3.2 episodes occur in children under the age of 5.
