Objective. To evaluate the concurrent, predictive validity and reliability of an algorithm designed to determine the stage of change for HIV testing. Methods. A cross-sectional, correlational, two-stage study was conducted. The first, with 300 young university students, to evaluate the concurrent and predictive criterion validity with variables such as self-efficacy, knowledge about HIV testing and risk perception, measured with instruments that present Cronbach's a between ,73 and ,93. The second in 75 migrants, considered as at-risk population (n = 75), to assess reliability by means of a test-retest. Results. The predominant stages of change for HIV testing in both samples were precontemplation and contemplation. Objetivo: Identificar las conductas sexuales de hombres que tienen sexo con hombres y que presentan exceso de peso,residentes de Monterrey, Nuevo León. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal en 50 hombres conexceso de peso que tienen sexo con hombres. Se utilizó el cuestionario de conducta sexual segura para recolectar los datosque fueron analizados mediante el software SPSS v23. Resultados: Los participantes informaron un índice de masa corporalde obesidad I y una práctica frecuente de sexo anal y oral con parejas estables y ocasionales. Aunque al menos la mitad tieneun plan para practicar sexo seguro, menos del 50 % utiliza condón regularmente y muchos no son capaces de negociar su usocon sus parejas.
