Objective: To determine the relationship between vascular age (VA) and endothelial dysfunction (ED) in adults living at more than 3,000 m.a.s.l. Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed at the Hospital Regional Docente Clínico Quirúrgico Daniel Alcides Carrión, Huancayo - Peru, from January to December 2015. The VA was calculated using the Framingham Risk Score and the ED was evaluated with the flow-mediated dilation (FMD) test in the brachial artery. A p-value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The study included 67 individuals (100 %), whose mean age was 55.3 ± 13.4 years (range: 30-74), out of which 41 (61.1 %) were women. The VA and the delta value were 57.9 ± 18.3 and 2.3 ± 9.3 years, respectively. Fifty-three point seven percent (53.7 %) (36 participants) had an increased VA and 22.3 % (15 participants) were older t...

Objective: to determine the factors related to left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in adults living high. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional and analytical study was carried out in the Echocardiography Laboratory of the Hospital Regional Docente Clínico (HRDCQ) Daniel Alcides Carrión (HRDCQ) of Huancayo, Peru at 3,259 m.s.n.m. The sample was determined with a formula and the sampling was simple random. The inclusion criteria were: be 18 years of age or older; have an echocardiography study with a diagnosis of LVH. The exclusion criteria were: having valvular disease, congenital heart disease, dilated cardiomyopathy, acute cardiovascular event, and cardiac arrhythmia. The data were collected in a file. For the statistical analysis, the X2 test, student's t test, binary and multivariate logistic regression, odds ratio, 95% confidence interval were applied. P <0.050 was consider...

A clinically significant case is reported, as it is the first to be published in the region. It refers to a patient who was admitted to the hospital through the emergency department after four days ofillness. The initial clinical presentation included lower limb edema and functional class II dyspnea, which progressed to class IV. A 12-lead electrocardiogram showed atrial tachycardia with a heart rate of 187 bpm. Sequential administration of adenosine, verapamil and electrical cardioversion was unsuccessful. Subsequently, amiodarone was given, leading to the restoration of sinus rhythm. On the second day of hospitalization, the patient developed frequent ventricular ectopic beats and episodes of supraventricular ectopic beats, for which amiodarone was continued. On the third day, he presented with an increased frequency of ventricular ectopy and non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, whic...
