There is a sort of consensus on ideas on Peru among historians in characterizing Unanue and the young people grouped around him in the journal Mercurio Peruano (1790–1795) as founders of Peru’s illustrious thinking. Notwithstanding, a meticulous textual investigation of Hipolito Unanue’s scientific work shows the presence of a paradigm of natural scientificity that operated with categories and perspectives notoriously divergent from the illustrated mechanicist tradition. With the same scientific spirit Unanue reflects the intercrossing of two paradigms in dispute since the XVII century: the physicalmathematical reasoning that opposes the historical-natural reasoning. En este artículo se reflexiona sobre las conexiones liberadoras existentes entre el discurso filosófico y la poesía, exploradas por el gran pensador español Miguel de Unamuno, así como sobre su concepción del lenguaje en tanto instrumento vital para la constitución de las identidades culturales en las sociedades modernas. Se sostiene así mismo la tesis de que el vitalismo filosófico de Unamuno, constituyó una crítica radical al discurso filosófico moderno que inaugurara Descartes y culminara con Hegel y una nueva teología positivista. Dicho discurso filosófico habría institucionalizado una suerte de narrativa realista, que al hegemonizar el sentido común de la cultura moderna termina asfixiando de una manera autoritaria la conformación de identidades individuales y culturales dialogantes e igualitarias que inspiraronlos ideales originarios de la ilustración.
