The impact of mining activity does not only generate royalties to the government but also contamination by heavy metals such as lead which is one of the main products that cause concern for public health, as they can cause various abnormalities such as headache, irritability, ataxia, seizures, cerebral edema, anemia, renal, hepatic and reproductive failure. In 2018, inhabitants from Huacho (Ancash Region, Perú) complained about lead poisoning. The objective of this research is to determine lead concentrations in soil and water and their correlation with the presence of this metal in the blood of Huacho inhabitants. This research studied the blood results from the 63 tested inhabitants since 71,4% of them had high concentrations of lead in their blood. Samples from drinking and crop irrigation water, and agricultural soil were taken, was analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emi...

Heavy metals such as lead are important because they can cause damage to health and have a negative impact on soil and water, which are sources of lead exposure for humans; the purpose of this research is to review papers that confirm the presence of lead in soil and water, as well as in fruits and vegetables, and to analyze the effect it can have on people. To this end, works from the National Digital Repository of Science, Technology and Innovation and scientific journals have been reviewed.  It has been demonstrated that soils can be contaminated by mining, by being located near factories, metallurgical industries, agriculture and by contamination resulting from vehicular traffic. Water can also be contaminated by both legal and illegal mining. The grasses, vegetables and fruits consumed daily can bioaccumulate lead.  According to the WHO, only 5 µg/dL can cause harm to hum...
