Enteramente dedicado a la ontología andina es el ensayo Acerca del animismo andino de Catherine Allen. La estudiosa, sobre la base de su prolongada observación participante en Sonqo, una comunidad de habla quechua de la región del Cuzco, ratifica que para los andinos cada manifestación —lugar, objeto o artefacto— del mundo material está potencialmente dotada de «vida» y por lo tanto puede activamente interaccionar con ellos, en el marco de un universo, organizado jerárquicamente y en perenne delicado equilibrio, conformado por lugares, artefactos y humanos, que más allá del aspecto exterior compartirían, usando la terminología de la clasificación de los tipos de ontología propuesta por Philippe Descola, una «interioridad» análoga.
