RESUMEN El breve periodo de la conferencia Perú - Boliviana muestra la gran dificultad por la que tuvieron que atravesar las nuevas naciones americanas en la conformación de sus delimitaciones territoriales y de sus propias entidades. Una de estas dificultades fue la poca claridad que se tenia respecto a la distinción entre política interna y externa, incluso los mismos lideres de la Confederación no supieron diferenciar muchas veces una de otra. En el presente articulo, esta situación es analizada de manera detallada mostrando diversos aspectos en los que se manifiesta la inestabilidad por la que tuvieron que pasar estas naciones en la búsqueda de una propia identidad

The article analyzes Don Francisco García Calderon Rey’s understanding of the relationship between Latin countries and other group of countries, especially Anglo-Saxon countries (The United States of America) from the early XXth century to First World War, the time when ideas changed. During those years, García Calderon postulates a vision that Latin countries lead by France were confronted by Anglo-Saxons, Germans and the Japanese. His geopolitical understanding was based on his definition of “the” Latin race, which excludes the non-European population in Latin America.

This work aims to explain the different ways of conceiving Republicanism among catholic conservatives in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, by comparing these republics during the Nineteenth Century. The focus of the study is to connect the conflicting relationship between religion and politics through a discussion on the so-called “catholic republic”, in opposition to the republican model envisioned by liberals and radicals. The role of the Catholic Church in the modern world was a central concern for conservatives who wanted to insert the American reality in the wider context of the “catholic civilization”, which served as a point of connection for the catholic community and the political modernity. Debemos complejizar la historia de la Guerra del Pacífico en el caso del Perú, Bolivia y Chile, los tres países involucrados en ella, con el objeto de crear una conciencia de la cultura de paz. Esta labor debe llevarse a cabo desde la Historia con una repercusión en la educación en general. Esta reflexión compleja debe involucrar un compromiso más allá de los discursos tradicionales de construcción de la identidad.
