En el Perú, el tema de la rehabilitación de los canales y terrazas para la soberanía alimentaria se viene trabajando desde la Arqueología Social, así como desde otras disciplinas. Por lo tanto, existen diversas maneras de entender y definir los andenes, terrazas o bancales. Partimos de la definición que señala que los bancales, terrazas y andenes son construcciones escalonadas con la función de ampliar la frontera agrícola de las laderas montañosas y que, al permitir el riego, disminuyen la erosión del suelo. In 2017, the Archaeological Research Project "Excavations of three late settlements: Llipaya, Mitolaya and Sinquiranchi, in Sangallaya, high valley of Mala, Huarochirí, Lima" was carried out.
