El impulso que me trae a esta tribuna académica es continuar profundizando en esa especie de Vidas paralelas que, al estilo de Plutarco, he establecido entre la vida de don Ricardo Palma Soriano y la de su hijo mayor Clemente Palma Ramírez . Desarrollaré en esta oportunidad, las causas que llevaron a padre e hijo –cada uno en su respectivo tiempo– al destierro  en Chile, así como los acontecimientos más saltantes de los que fueron participes durante su permanencia en el país sureño y, de forma particular, lo que produjeron intelectualmente como aporte sustancial a su corpus literario.

In the collective memory of the Peruvians of the present, the name of the Hospital Order of the Betlemites is practically forgotten. However, when reading the Peruvian Traditions of Ricardo Palma, the name of that religious institution that remained in Peru for almost three hundred years, resurfaces with new vigor to open the panorama of an interesting time in the history of medicine and the health of our ancestors. Along with this historical vision, comes also the literary part, which is born from the ingenious pen of Palma, when telling us about characters, customs and facts of a Lima that no longer exists. This communication will try to explain many of the aspects that need to be known in order to better understand the tradition: “The Barbones”, and with this, to revalue the role of a diligent historian and an ingenious writer who was the father of the Peruvian Traditions.

Military leaders in the history of Peru during the nineteenth century have left an indelible mark on the national conscience, but none with the peculiar characteristics of the great marshal Don Ramon Castilla y Marquesado, Who made strenuous efforts to establish in its various governments the political, legislative and economic order that the country needed, which turned him into a statesman of the highest order and led the peruvian nation to an unexpected boom. This communication seeks to find the connections that this caudillo has with another great Peruvian: Don Ricardo Palma Soriano, the Father of Traditions. It tries to explain, as well, why the traditionist founded in Castilla an ideal person to relate traditions.

The topic of black culture in Peru is extensive and complex. The contribution it has given to our miscegenation is not only confined to the biological or racial, but has also high and significant levels that have indelibly marked the entire Peruvian culture, and this is the reason why it cannot be ignored or failed to recognize under any circumstances. To have a bigger picture of the subject, an insight into the background of black slavery in Peru is needed. The aforementioned picture will also help to understand better the Peruvian Traditions in which Don Ricardo Palmaaddresses the issues referred to “the Negro” and “the Negritude”. It should be emphasized that for Palma these issues are not unrelated because of their blood relationship with the black race.

The way in which two prominent figures in the history of Peru and Ecuador, Manuela Sáenz Aizpuru and Ricardo Palma Soriano, became related is a transcendental matter that cannot go unnoticed in the exhaustive study of the work of Palma. Many are the characters around Ricardo Palma who are closely linked to his existence and who will continue to relate to each other even after the death of the traditionist in 1919. In this opportunity, we will focus specifically on two of them: his eldest son, the writer and journalist Clemente Palma; and his loyal and devoted admirer, the great Peruvian polygrapher José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma. The firstis a member of the Modernist generation and the second, part of the generation of the Nineteenth Century or Arielista. This communication aims to reveal the details of that relationship and how long it lasted over time.

Caudillos militares hubo en la historia del Perú durante el siglo decimonónico que han dejado huella indeleble en la conciencia nacional, pero ninguno con las características peculiares del gran mariscal don Ramón Castilla y Marquesado, quien hizo esfuerzos denodados por instaurar en sus diversos gobiernos el ordenamiento político, legislativo y económico que el país necesitaba, lo que lo convirtió a la postre en un estadista de primer orden que condujo a la nación hacia una bonanza inesperada. Este escrito pretende encontrar las vinculaciones que este caudillo tiene con otro grande del Perú: don Ricardo Palma Soriano, el Padre de las Tradiciones, e intenta explicar por qué el tradicionista encontró en Castilla un personaje idóneo para relatar tradiciones.

La Academia Peruana de la Lengua en su decidida y permanente tarea de descentralizar sus actividades académicas fuera de la capital de la República, y comouna forma de integrar y hacer participes de sus proyectos a lingüistas, lexicólogos y lexicógrafos del interior del país, organiza congresos, simposios y talleres que tributa a una persona representativa de la cultura y de las letras del lugar donde se realiza el evento. Con este propósito, tocó a la ciudad de Piura, del 18 al 20 de agosto de 2010, ser la sede del V Congreso Internacional de Lexicología y Lexicografía, el cual estuvo dedicado a homenajear a Carlos Robles Rázuri. ¿Quién es este personaje? ¿Cuáles son sus méritos? ¿Cuál es la trascendencia de su obra?
